Enrik's (VII)

Because we wanted to see Enrik's lunch menu (because frankly, ET & I couldn't remember if they had one) plus they have more variety that some cafes we've been to of late, off we went to Enrik's.

We walked in at 11:40 to be told breakfast finishes at 11:45 so we would have to wait 20 minutes before lunch is being served.  Say what now??  Who ever heard of a restaurant closing the kitchen between between meals for 20 minutes?  Seriously - if anyone has, let me know where.

Anyway, we were there already there so we ordered coffees and went through the menu while waiting.  A few minutes before they were ready to take our food order, ET ordered a second coffee and I asked for some water.  Incidentally, you can order from the full menu from 12:00pm (except for breakfast, of course) but we had to ask because they didn't explain that bit to us.

As always, ET went the pasta route.  The Fettucini Carbonara had more of a mushroom flavour and color but ET thought it was good.

The lunch menu Chicken Ceasar Foccacia had a nice dressing and filled the spot.

Oh and that water I asked for earlier - I'm still waiting to get it. :s

Enrik's Restaurant (VI)

Despite it's look, I actually quite enjoyed this pizza.  I can't quite remember what's on it, but smearing it in the balsamic (which you can just see on the plate below) made it really delicious.  One dish we must try again once we eventually return to Enrik's.

ET went his usual steak route.  It glistened a bit, but ET said it was good.
I think this was fish (forgive me, but I stopped taking notes for a while).  But if you didn't already notice, it was swimming in sauce!!  I couldn't eat the salad because it was smeared in the stuff.  If only they'd drizzled the sauce over the dish instead of pouring it on the plate, I would've enjoyed this meal.

Although the food isn't bad here, the service is.  We had to wait for the menus, then for someone to take our drinks order.  When they came to clear our plates, we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu.  Surprisingly we said yes.  Then we waited.  And waited.  I guess we would still be waiting if we hadn't gotten up and paid our bill at the bar.
Unfortunately, the service is always lacking at Enrik's no matter what time and day we go there.  And for this, they are always our last minute, desperate choice.  I only have one thing left to say - lift your game Enrik's!!

Enrik's Restaurant (V)

I was glad to see the cobwebs in the corner had disappeared since we were last at Enrik's. And much to my surprise ET did not choose his usual Sunday Morning Savior. He went for Enrik's Big Breakfast which came with one piece of unbuttered toast. Luckily the waitress was kind enough to offer to bring some butter.

I was quite excited to order the Raisin French Toast. But when it was served to me, all I could say was "I ordered the RAISIN french toast". To which the answer was "That is the french raisin toast".  Funny, because I couldn't see one bit of raisin on the whole plate. And once I sliced into the thick bread, I still saw no sign of a raisin nor was there any taste of it anywhere.

The second slice of my french toast was a bit dry thanks to all the maple syrup being drizzled over the first slice. I was fully intending to ask for extra maple syrup when they finally brought over the butter for ET's toast and the water I asked for. But alas, neither arrived and so I ate my second slice without any maple syrup and ET ate his toast unbuttered.

You should have seen my mouth drop when, upon finishing our meals, another waitress said "French Raisin Toast" to the table behind us and ET nodded to show that they, unlike us, were served raisin bread for their French Raisin Toast. Grrrr!!

Enrik's Restaurant (IV)

Having enjoyed a breakfast at Enrik's recently, ET & I were quite looking forward to re-visiting.

We arrived at breakfast time to find Enrik’s more than half empty.  Which was just as well as we were on a schedule.  ET decided to order the Turkish bread which he enjoyed last time.  Unfortunately, it seemed like a smaller serving and didn’t taste as good as our previous visit.  From my point of view, the dish did look better last time.

Knowing I wasn’t extremely hungry, I decided to go for the pancake with bacon and maple syrup.  What I got were 3 small pancakes that looked more like pikelets.  They were flavourless and not at all fluffy. :(  I think it’s how the pancakes would’ve turned out if I had cooked it myself!  And since I don’t cook, that’s not a very good statement to make about a restaurant.  The only saving grace for me was the bacon was nice and crispy; just the way I like it.

I must make comment on what I recently termed as “water wellness” of a restaurant.  When you ask for water at Enrik’s, they bring glasses and a bottle of icy cold water.  The water is nicely chilled and presented in a bottle that I think is a lovely shape. So this gets a big tick of approval from me.

The coffee was given a thumbs up by ET.  And although sandwiched between two other tables, I liked being seated in the corner so both ET and I had a window view.  That was until I noticed several cobwebs from floor to ceiling!!  A big tsk-tsk.  HUGE!

Enrik's Restaurant (III)

Having only ever visited Enrik's for dinner, we were happy to see many tables occuppied when we arrived for a weekend breakfast.

ET thought the latte he ordered was nice.  So was mine but my layer of foam was larger than his.  Was it because mine was soy, I wonder.  Also, is it nit-picking to wonder why there was no design on the foam?  Yea, I guess it is.  But there was really nothing else to pick on during that visit.

Anyway, back to the food.  ET ordered something like turkish bread with bacon, eggs and, I think, pesto (I can't remember exactly what was in it or what it was called) with a side order of sausage.  As soon as ET took a bite of his sandwich, all he could say was "That's delicious".

I ordered the french toast which arrived as 2 pieces, each of which was about the same size as the plate.  Upon orderng I thought it wouldn't be enough to fill me, so I also ordered bacon as extra.  And no wonder they served it on a side plate, considering how much room the french toast took up on the plate!  Needless to say, I didn't finish my meal.  If I knew how big the french toast was going to be, I would never have ordered the bacon.

ET agreed their servings for breakfast were quite generous and we both enjoyed our meals, so Enrik's is now definitely on our list of breakfast/brunch places to go to.

Enrik's Restaurant (II)

Another weekday night, another busy and unfortunately, a rather loud night at Enrik's.

ET, not being overly hungry decided to give the kangaroo a go.  The serving was adequate which looked and smelt quite nice.  ET was impressed and made no complaints.

Being on the hungry side, I went for the good 'ole chicken parmigiana.  It was by no means fantastic, but it wasn't bad either.  And thankfully the portion size was manageable so no complaints here either.

The staff weren't too bad but they did forget to show us the night's specials.

Enrik's Restaurant

We arrived late one weekend to find a hens night in progress.  ET & I were seated for several minutes and with menus closed, still had to wait a while before our orders were taken. Once they were, we were told it would be a 20 minute wait and suggested we order entrees.

As suggested, we ordered cheese bread.  But the plate put in front of us was garlic bread.  ET & I looked at each other and back down to the plate.  Yep, it was garlic bread alright.  The waitress returned to apologise.  Apparently they mixed our order up with another table.  They offered to bring us the cheese bread but it was late and we were hungry and since we had already tucked in, we declined the offer.

We were then served our mains while I was still eating the last of the garlic bread.  There was by no means a 20 minute wait for the mains, so we were left wondering whether the suggestion to order entrees while we waited was just a con.

ET wasn't any happier once he started tucking into the dish.  Having ordered his steak, then being told a few minutes later that it was actually unavailable, ET was already disappointed.  And is it just me, or do the vegetables seem a little lacking in quantity??

I ordered the chicken off the dairy-free menu.  It was a little dry and a tiny bit pink in some places.  However I liked the fact that they served it with a mix of potato and sweet potato chips.

Upon leaving, they apologised again for not having the steak that was originally ordered and the mix up with the bread.  Which, thankfully, they did not charge us for.

I'm not so sure if we'll be back any time soon.  One thing though - kudos to for providing a gluten AND dairy free menus.  It's something I've never seen before and wish more restaurants would do it.
